    Junior Controller – Part Time

    Job Summary

We are looking to add a Part-time Junior Controller to our growing Operations team. In this role, you will support the financial operations of the organization from bookkeeping and reconciliation to financial reporting in alignment with our business objectives and in collaboration with our team. You will also support budgeting reports, account balancing and tax filing. NERv has a flexible, hybrid office/WFH model.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Lead NERv’s finance initiatives
    • Perform monthly bookkeeping, reconciliation and balancing for all of NERv’s accounts
    • Manage and maintain the Chart of Accounts
    • Review, verify and reconcile expense reports
    • Manage and maintain both digital and physical versions of all invoices, receipts, deposits and sundry
    • Accurately and efficiently model financial data and spending into easily understood reports for both internal and external purposes
    • Monitor and report trends in spending to create accurate budgeting processes
    • Work with our Research & Development team to organize reporting and prepare Scientific
    • Research and Experimental Development Tax (SR&ED) claim reports
    • Work with the operations team to improve NERv’s bookkeeping, expense tracking and expense reporting
    • Prepare appropriate reports and summaries for internal or external presentations on an as-needed basis
    • Streamline and improve processes as required
    • Work with organization accountant to file annual T2 and corporate tax return.


    •  BSc/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field is preferred
    •  3+ years of experience with finance, bookkeeping, accounting or similar field
    •  Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    •  Proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting tools
    •  Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
    •  Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
    •  Ability to adapt to changing priorities under high pressure situations
    •  Team player, ability to take feedback from all team members
    •  Ability to interpret organize financial data concepts and explain it to a wide variety of audiences
    •  Proven excellence in oral and written communication
    •  Working knowledge of MS Office, specifically Microsoft Excel

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Professional Certification (CPA preferred) is a strong asset
    •  Experience filing SR&ED Reports is an asset
